News › The Royal Battlegrouds - Fast League #2

First season has ended and the clear winner was TRR. 2nd position clan was 51st and 3rd G.o.W. Awards page claims something other, but Tront should fix it soon. Anyway, all the standings of the 1st season of the Fast League can be seen fromHERE

As everyone can see, there will be always new league made after season ends. This have really no affect on the teams that are currently in, because admin will add the teams by himself. However, new tables are HERE and all the fixtures can be seen HERE .

There is a FORFEIT team currently in the fixtures to support the script of the site. Practically, it means that the clans opposed FORFEIT team, will get a forfeit win by default. So for instance, in the first week Firstfrag will get forfeitwin, if 4th clan wasn't signed up for the league till thursday.

Sincerely,
League Admin Plexi

A new server.dll, client patch & more information on double elimination

Server.dll and client side patch

After hearing the feedback from European players, HairyPotter decided to make a new 1.1b server.dll, which makes it possible to prevent players using the client side patch (ALT).This server.dll is available from these sites: american mirror or european mirror .

Things which should be disabled are: ability to see players' names and cl_old_smoke. Disabling damage isn't necessary, because it doesn't give players really any significant advantage, so the decision lies in the owner of the server. However, the updated server.dll isn't 100% foolproof. The ones, who are using old version of ALT client side patch, may still use 0.15 smoke selected from the options, but though can't see the name of enemy players or damages(if set so). Considering the fact that old ALT client side patch is already allowed, it'd be silly and slightly too late to forbid it anymore. The newest version of client side patch is possible to be downloaded from alt site and the old patch from my site . Anyway, I suggest that the players will use the newest version of the patch like I will from this moment.

P.S There is also another version of the server.dll, which is compatible with the ALT server.dll. It's also allowed to be used on the servers, if set to 1.1b. Ask more about it from me or HairyPotter

Double Elimination.

The first phase of the league has been played and the second is just about to be started this week. The schedules of first week are posted in the front page and the matches of next weeks in the future will be posted always after the matches of previous week are played. However, the matches are to be played at default time 20 gmt on saturday like in the first phase or at different time in the same week if agreed with the opponent otherwise. You may check from the competition site how the matches will be played. But as stated in the previous news message, the losers of upper bracket drops into lower bracket and play against each others. And the losers of lower bracket are out from the league. The winner of the league is obviously the team, which wins the final match and 2nd is the team, which lost it. Team which is positioned 3rd place after the league is the one, which lost its match in the 5th round.

Second round matches are to be played at the same week. In the following week only 3rd round match of lower bracket will be played, so upper bracket teams have a break of one week. Then 3rd round in the upper bracket and 4th round of lower bracket will be played. After that upper bracket team will have again a break of one week and only 5th round of lower bracket is to be played. And the league ends in the 6th week when the final match will be played.

Map Order

1st round bg_maricopa_b
2nd round bg_koth
3rd round bg_pinebarrens
4th round bg_freemans_farm
5th round bg_ambush
6th round bg_abbey

1.5 Patch released

Infinity Ward just released another patch for their latest game Call of Duty 4, updating it from version 1.4 to 1.5. The 10.65MB patch is fixing several bugs in the multiplayer part and adds a better mod tools support. Together with the 1.5 patch, Infinity Ward released a small update for the Mod Tools, which makes the tools work with languages other than english. Here is the complete changelog of the 1.5 update:

Changelog

    * Fixed server browser not showing all of the servers
    * The "hold [ ] to steady" sniper scope hint will only appear if you can use it
    * Fixed game not recognizing IWDs existing if they are all in fs_basepath and none are in the main/ folder
    * Made mod scripts able to change stats
    * Allow developer_script for mulitiplayer modding
    * Fixed map rotation errors with usermaps
    * Fix for reloading several times after connecting to a modded server
    * Fixed minimap not showing up in the menu for usermaps
    * Fixed an issue with Http redirect downloads.
    * Mod tools will now work with other languages

Note: The update is not compatible with Version 1.4. You will not find 1.4 servers after installation. Please ensure you have previously downloaded 1.4 patch before downloading 1.5 as you will need the 'Winter Crash' map from 1.4.

Source - Update Information

Day of Defeat: Source - Update Information

I got in contact with Matt "Mugsy" Boone who is the lead programmer on the Day of Defeat development team.
Explaining some of the communities concerns regarding the game he kindly took the time to respond to my questions and allowed me to post them publicly.

Currently there are rumours on what the forthcoming update will contain; some believe the game is being ported to the ‘orange box’ engine, some believe the ‘cone of fire’ will be made centre weighted while others believe that all we should expect are some map and game bug/exploit fixes.

Can the development team confirm or deny any of these rumours? Can you possibly shed some light on what the community can hope to expect from this update and what is planned for any future updates?

“It will be on the orange box engine, it will contain cone of fire tweaks, leaning eye point fix and a few other improvements.”

Would the development team consider adding more maps in the future? Either brand new maps or making popular custom maps official?
(Such as the CAMP map packs or competitive favourites such as Harrington, Lennon, Salerno, Coire etc)

“We're working with the maker of Salerno to include an improved version of that map in the next release, and we're in close contact with the CAMP guys to get exposure to those maps as well.”

Can you give the month in 2008 when we should ‘hope’ to see the update?

“I would guess March, but as always consult valve time
    ( http://developer.valvesoftware.com/ wiki/Valve_Time )”

Would you consider allowing players to disable the ‘victory/defeat music’?

“This would be easy to add, I'll put it on the wish list.”

Sv_pure was an excellent and a very welcome addition, competitively we use sv_pure 2 which blocks custom crosshairs.

Would you be willing to include more crosshairs?
(such as a dot . or +)

“I'll look into custom crosshairs. We'd have to add user interface to switch between crosshair files, but I'll see what we can do.”

Any updates to melee, in particular the registration? It’s a bit ‘hit and miss’

“Melee hits I'll check. They may benefit from some tech we did for TF2.”

Are their any planned changes to the ‘shock effect’?

“No plans to change the shock effect.”

Are there any achievements; such as those in TF2 planned?

“We have a full set of dod achievements that will come out in this patch, as well as other steam community features to bring dod:s inline with tf2.”

My thanks go out to Matt for taking the time to answer these questions.
I hope this helps to cover some of the communities current concerns, if you would like me to put any additional questions to the development team please post them here and I will try my best to get a reply.

Double elimination, alt client side patch & schedules

Double Elimination

As most people know, the league will not end after the first 7 matches but will change to a double elimination knockout format. Thereby guaranteeing a minimum of two further games. The RULES, which have been recently updated, give an outline but I'll sum it up:

All teams will play a first round match, losers of this round will drop to the lower bracket and play a second round. Losers of the second round matches, in the lower bracket, will be eliminated and losers of the upper bracket will drop to the lower bracket and play a further round. Until the winners of the lower and upper brackets play each other in the final. The lower bracket finalists must win 2 maps to be outright winners whereas the winners of the upper bracket need only win on one map.

The first matches will be played: 1st vs 8th, 3rd vs 6th, 2nd vs 7th and 4th vs 5th losing teams will be added to the lower bracket in a random order.

Matches begin 3rd March 2008 and will end 12th April

Alt client side patch

Many of you know that Hairy Potter has made a modification of bg2 which is called ALT. This gives you the ability to change strafe speed and turn to pick guns up etc. However, Hairy also made a client side patch of ALT which can be used on 1.1b servers. This patch allows you to see the damage of other players, see names of enemy players and stopsound with "f".

This patch also allows you to see more easily through smoke which fades faster. Although this gives you a great advantage, I'm not going to forbid the use of alt client patch at this stage of the league as there is no tool to check whether people are using it or not. I therefore suggest that all players install and use it to ensure each has the same advantage.

Schedules

I've told most people already that schedules in the league have been slightly changed to more logical way. So first day of the week to play the match is now Monday and last day is Sunday. Considering also that default date is still set to Saturday 20 GMT. This is now also available in the RULES.

Server crashing issue

There is a chance that server might crash during the match due to instability of current version of bg2. The issue, which causes the crash, is fullcapping. If this happened, clans should ensure from the demo, how long they had played match and play the remaining time(e.g you can change the timelimit from cupwars.cfg) . There should be also added +200 points for the team, which fullcapped, because server can't add the points due to crash. However, if both teams agreed, the whole round may played again, and adding +200 points isn't necessary.
